African Overseas Union, Inc. is established to provide charitable assistance to indigent populations in the United States of America and in Africa, and to promote intercultural understanding through educational programs and through recognition of the contributions of individuals to society's general welfare.

For example, the organization has made donations to:

  • The Oklahoma Relief Fund
  • The Leroy Patterson Medical Air Fund
  • Clothing donations to the Fox Clothes Drive

In 1996, African Overseas Union, Inc. organized and presented a dramatization of an African Wedding as part of the Houston International Festival's salute to the region of West Africa.

In 1995 and 1996, AOU held day workshops and symposiums which culminated in award ceremonies honoring individuals who have contributed to the advancement of interracial understanding and co-existence of diverse cultures.

African Overseas Union, Inc. has established an outreach program which sends performers to local schools to give positive presentations about African heritage and culture. These programs promote in students a greater understanding of the history and cultures from which many of their classmates have come.

The organization's future plans include:

  • the establishment of a Children's community center for after school, with holiday programs to foster peaceful co-existence among their peers, and a study hall for continuing education;
  • a student international exchange program bringing young people from Africa to the United States and sending American students to study and live in Africa. This will allow students to learn by immersing them in foreign cultures.
